dc.descriptionThis deposit contains an original dataset on the territorial distribution of residential care homes for older people (ERPI) in mainland Portugal, covering the third-sector network (IPSS) and for-profit provision. No dataset of this kind is published by any official source. The Carta Social (GEP-MTSSS) makes establishment records available only through its online search interface, one at a time. Every ERPI record was retrieved from that interface and compiled into a facility-level file of 2,619 establishments, with district, managing organisation, municipality, legal nature of the operator, licensed capacity and number of residents. A municipal dataset was derived from it for the 278 municipalities of mainland Portugal. The records were retrieved in February 2026, at which date the platform reported data with reference to 2023; the platform has since been updated to a later reference year, so this is the only accessible record of the 2023 register at facility level. The municipal dataset combines the Carta Social data with demographic and socioeconomic indicators from Statistics Portugal (INE), and includes the derived measures used in the analysis. Variable definitions follow those set out in the article and its Supporting Information. The data derive exclusively from publicly available sources and contain no personal or identifiable information, and are openly available. Please cite this deposit when using the data.
